IPR Abstract

IPR —Abbreviation of Intellectual Property Rights. Basically IPR relates to legal rights available for protection of

  • Technology
  • Designs (Industrial Designs)
  • Labels
  • Trade Secrets
  • Literary Works
  • Cinematographic Films

Basically, IPR are legal rights governing 8, controlling the use. exercise and vending of  the conceptions of a human mind and are basically state-mandated monopolies. IPR laws tend  to be country-specific in nature and hence cumbersome when it comes down to secure the right.

The term IPR covers a bundle of rights such as patents, plant breeders’ rights, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets, each with a different purpose and effect. Copyright covers the expression of ideas in writing, music and pictures. Patents cover inventions such as designs for objects or industrial processes. Trademarks are symbols associated with a good, a service, or a company. Trade secrets cover confidential business information. A very recent addition — plant breeders’ rights — covers the area of production of new seeds and plant varieties. India is not a member of UPOV (Union of new Plant Varieties)

The whole concept of intellectual property is a full circle — from the initial notion of the protection of an individual’s rights and the notion of disclosure of information, IPR now means protection of the rights of corporations and a bar on the free flow of information.

As Intellectual Property Rights suggest it is protecting copyrights. patents, trademarks and other types of intellectual property rights and as is the view IP is not just important for a wealthy few. Intellectual property rights are about the very things that make life safer, longer. more comfortable and fun. We are talking about things that provide sustenance, jobs. incomes, and entertainment. We are talking about ideas and identity; things you make and grow and invent and the wealth they can produce. You may not have thought about it before in exactly this light, but intellectual property has an indelible impact on the quality of daily life of every citizen in India.
